Overview
When enrollments are up, being able to plan an efficient
and effective class schedule is a must. But for
many community colleges, the scheduling process
is at best, inefficient, and at worst, a
nightmare. Room shortages at key times, faculty
schedules not meeting the needs of students,
disputes among programs needing short-term
space, and students trying to solve class time
conflicts for required courses are serious
issues on many campuses. In today’s market,
community colleges are being asked to meet
increased student demand for classes with
substantially reduced resources. This hands-on
workshop will provide participants an
opportunity to put their class schedule data
under a microscope and to evaluate it for both
efficiency and effectiveness. Using their own
college’s data, the participants are
guaranteed to find solutions to current space
and class delivery issues, and leave with
solutions to scheduling challenges.
Who Should Attend
This seminar is a must for your chief academic officer and
chief scheduling staff member. But to make the
biggest impact on your college, bring your
entire team. Key members for making this
workshop a success include those key people
involved in your class schedule development –
leaders in your faculty, department chairs,
deans, curriculum specialists, schedulers, and
even your administrative assistants.
Why You Should Attend
As a community college academic officer, you know what it’s like to
make critical program, curriculum, and personnel
decisions based on little or no information. In
this workshop, using your own data, you will be
able to document the data you need for planning,
decision making, and instructional delivery
essential to college – and student –
success. Not only will you be able to identify
issues, but also define solutions to these
scheduling concerns:
-
Explore the many issues impacting schedule
development and learn how to streamline
development at your college
-
Review best practices for determining when to
cancel classes, and provide tools eliminate
those sections which cancel from the
schedule in the first place
-
Identify common issues impacting decreased space
utilization at your college and find
“new” rooms at your campus
-
Evaluate your current curriculum for accessibility
when scheduling for day, evening, weekend,
and online students
-
Understand how to change the culture of your
organization to embrace new schedule
development methodologies and actually
